Have Questions Regarding Last Mile Fulfilment or Delivery Needs? Part II

In Part I of “Have Questions Regarding Last Mile Fulfilment or Delivery Needs?”, we covered some concerns of local courier and delivery services like how to provide customers with the flexibility on deciding when delivery should take place; how sender can track and trace the progress of a delivery job; and the use of technology to make the input of delivery orders quick and efficient as well as make the recipients’ personal data secured.

In Part II of this series, we will cover some of the more essential and intricate questions on courier and delivery services in Singapore and what XDel offers and can do to “Delivering Simplicity”.

How is Document, Light Parcel and Large Parcel Classified?

A document must be printed matter and in an envelope packaging, weighing not more than 3kg and no larger than A4 size. Anything weighing more than 3kg and larger than A4 size will be treated as a parcel.

Shipment in a box weighing less than 3kg will be considered as light parcel and anything above 3kg will be considered as large parcel. The maximum size for light parcel should not exceed 80cm (Length + Breath + Height). Odd-sized item will be considered as large parcel and volumetric weight applies. (Check out our previous article https://bit.ly/2kvZ33l on what volumetric weight is and how it is calculated) For large parcel weighing more than 5kg, do inform the courier company so that they will send the right vehicle to pick up the shipment for successful delivery.

What is “Restricted Zone”? What are the places in Singapore that are considered as “Restricted Zones”?

A “Restricted Zone” is an area or location or premise which is less accessible and harder to reach; or will significantly take up more time either pick up or deliver a shipment; or will require special passes to access.

Here’s a list of XDel’s restricted zones:

  • Airports
  • Cargo Complex
  • Shipyards
  • PSA Terminals
  • Government Buildings
  • SAF Camps
  • Alps Avenue or any specified secured areas
  • Sentosa
  • Marina Bay Sands
  • Selected Hospitals
  • Universities
  • Polytechnics
  • F1 Restricted Area
  • Outlaying areas with postal codes starting with 69, 70 or 71
  • Jurong Islands
  • Islands in Singapore

Extra surcharges, in varying amount, will apply to deliveries to restricted zones in Singapore. However, there are still restricted zones which are considered out of bound by general public so delivery cannot be made.

My company would like to do away with cash-on-delivery payment terms. What options do I have available to use XDel’s courier and delivery services?

For companies who want to do away with cash-on-delivery payment terms, XDel can start a corporate account for you, if you have a minimum spending of $200 a month with us. Invoice will issued to you at the end of the month and payment to be made by the agreed credit terms.

For companies with lower delivery volume, you can consider starting a pre-paid account with us and every time a delivery order is made, credit will be deducted from the account.

How soon does it take to start a delivery account with XDel?

Almost immediately, once you are aware of our charges and the type of account you want to set up with XDel.

We are opened from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday so feel free to call our hotline at 6376 1838 or simply email sales@xdel.com to let us know how we can assist you with your delivery and courier needs today!
